2014 Clinical Nurse Specialist Census

With the retirement of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s national nurse survey, the responsibility for nurse-specific data collection has been shifted to the states and other entities. The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS), an organizational affiliate of the American Nurses Association, is partnering with nursing organizations to collect information at the national level about clinical nurse specialists (CNSs). The goal is to learn more about this unique and important advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) category and how individuals with CNS education and experience are contributing to the health care system.

Frequently asked questions

Who can take the survey?

This survey is NOT limited to organizational members. NACNS hopes that many graduates of clinical nurse specialist programs will take the time to complete this survey. As well, we hope that respondents will not only complete this survey, but will also forward it to a friend or colleague to complete. The more responses we receive, the better NACNS can meet the needs of CNSs across the nation.

What will the survey measure?

This survey tool is designed to capture demographic, practice and education data about those who complete the survey. We are less interested in their current specific job title. We want to hear from as many individuals as possible who identify themselves as CNSs or were educated as CNSs.

Where can I see the results?

Results of the CNS Census will be published in the Clinical Nurse Specialist: The International Journal for Advanced Nursing.

The link to participate in this survey is: www.surveymonkey.com/s/CF56ZXM.

The survey will be available until Dec. 31. If you have questions, contact Melinda Ray at mray@nacns.org.

— Melinda Ray is the executive director of NACNS.
