Celebrate National Nurses Week 2016

The American Nurses Association is proud to celebrate the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality care to their patients during National Nurses Week May 6 to 12.

The National Nurses Week theme “Culture of safety: It starts with YOU” recognizes the importance of safety and collaboration in nursing and acknowledges the strong commitment, compassion and care nurses display in their practice. (Learn more about a culture of safety and how you can contribute to bringing this goal to life at www.nursingworld.org/CreatingSafetyofCulture.)

To recognize the dedication of nurses across the nation, ANA has created numerous materials, including graphics, talking points and a resource toolkit. The toolkit is packed with useful information and resources on how to make the most of the celebration, including a thank-you card, the official logo library, a large banner, a certificate of appreciation and tips on working with local media.

In addition, ANA will host a free webinar, “Culturally Congruent Care: Why Diversity Makes a Difference,” on May 10 from 1-2 p.m. EDT, presented by Marilyn “Marty” Douglas, PhD, RN, FAAN. In addition, ANA created a variety of gifts featuring the official ANA theme and logo “Culture of safety: It starts with YOU,” which include T-shirts, tote bags and mugs.

The American Nurses Foundation offers opportunities to honor nurses while helping raise money for nursing projects. Simply go to Honor a Nurse at www.givetonursing.org.

As well, the documentary “The American Nurse: Healing America” by Carolyn Jones is available to view at home or to give as a gift (as a digital download or DVD at www.nehst.com/product/the-american-nurse). The documentary explores some of the biggest issues facing America — poverty, war, aging and prisons — through the work and lives of five RNs. Proceeds from the film support a scholarship program for nurses.

ANA encourages all RNs to participate in recognition activities and to educate the public about the nursing profession. Visit nursingworld.org/NNW for details and resources. Be sure to join us on ANA’s social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter at #NursesWeek and #CultureofSafety.
