Raising awareness

As an organizational partner, the American Nurses Association recently participated in efforts around the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Get Smart About Antibiotics Week.” This annual one-week observance, Nov. 16 to 22, is aimed at raising awareness of the threat of antibiotic resistance and the importance of appropriate antibiotic prescribing and use. Additionally, the CDC is convening a focus group of up to 18 members to explore the role of RNs in antibiotic stewardship in acute care hospitals, and again, ANA is assisting in this effort.
