Join us for ANA Lobby Day on July 22

ANA-New York nurses discuss key issues with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), who is co-sponsor of the Home Health Planning Improvement Act.

ANA’s Annual Lobby Day is a unique opportunity for RNs to speak with a collective voice on issues that matter most to the profession. RNs join forces to put “boots on the ground” in Washington, DC, or catch the attention of legislators virtually across the country.

On Lobby Day, hundreds of RNs meet with their elected officials to advocate for causes and policy change affecting nurses and patients. On previous Lobby Days, nurses told lawmakers and staff powerful stories about why we need safer staffing levels, the importance of funding for nurses’ education, removing barriers to full scope of practice authority and many other pressing issues.

As an RN, you have an opportunity to share your expertise and experience with members of Congress. A Gallup poll recently named nursing the most trusted profession for 2014. This is a voice and profession that Congress needs to hear from!

To help nurses prepare for Lobby Day, ANA provides resources and information about priority issues at www.RNAction.org. In the weeks leading up to Lobby Day, ANA also provides participants with an electronic packet of information, including the Capitol Hill meeting schedule, short webinars on the topics of lobbying, ANA’s legislative priorities and how to use social media to promote advocacy.

Lobby Day events will kick off on July 22 at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel during a breakfast briefing. For nurses unable to travel to DC, there are still plenty of ways to get involved by participating in Virtual Lobby Day, writing to your members of Congress, meeting with elected officials back in the
district or attending a local town hall. The ANA Government Affairs team looks forward to partnering with you to make this Lobby Day a success.
