Navigating shiftwork: 5 tips for managing fatigue

Do you work the night shift or rotating shifts? Do some of your patients struggle with sleep problems? More than 22 million Americans are shift workers, and nurses account for a large portion of them. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shift work sleep disorder (SWSD) poses serious health threats. Shift work, lost sleep and SWSD can reduce your job performance, decrease quality of life and jeopardize patient safety. Unfortunately, many RNs and other health care professionals aren’t familiar with SWSD. This webinar will provide strategies for managing shift work fatigue.

Nurses who complete this educational activity will be able to:

• Analyze risks associated with shift work.

• Compare and contrast strategies for managing shift work fatigue.
